Why I think the ZSA Voyager is worth the hype
As a software engineer in Kuala Lumpur, my hands are my livelihood. By early 2026, I noticed almost every senior dev in my circle was rocking a ZSA Voyager. It is a sleek, split ergonomic mechanical keyboard that looks like it belongs in a sci-fi movie. Unlike the bulky ergonomic boards of the past, this one is low-profile and incredibly portable.
The build quality is miles ahead of anything I have found in local malls. However, there is a catch: ZSA does not have a local distributor in Malaysia. If you want one, you have to get it from the source. I realized that if I wanted to avoid the massive markups from independent resellers on Shopee, I had to handle the international shipping myself.
Shipping Estimates for the ZSA Voyager
Before I clicked buy, I needed to know if the shipping costs would break my budget. I used a shipping calculator to get a rough idea of the total landed cost. Here is what I found based on the ZSA Voyager package specs:
Box Weight and Dimensions
- Box Weight: Approx. 1.8 lbs (0.8 kg) including the carrying case and cables.
- Box Dimensions: Small (roughly 25cm x 20cm x 5cm). It is very compact!
Volumetric and Battery Checks
Volumetric Warning: Good news! Because the keyboard is dense and the box is small, you likely will not be hit with high volumetric weight charges. It is not like shipping a giant plush toy or a pillow where the size exceeds the actual weight.
Battery Check: The ZSA Voyager is a wired keyboard. It does not contain any lithium batteries. This makes the international shipping service much smoother, as there are no hazardous material surcharges or strict airline restrictions to worry about.
How I used a freight forwarder to shop the US store
When I went to the ZSA website, I saw that shipping directly can sometimes be tricky with local addresses or specific payment methods. To keep things simple and save on costs, I decided to use comGateway. They provided me with a tax-free US address in Oregon, which meant I did not have to pay any US sales tax on my purchase.
I simply entered that address at checkout. If you find that your Malaysian credit card is being declined by US merchants, you are not alone. Check our guide on Read more: US online stores are still rejecting Malaysian cards for the ZSA Voyager for tips on how to get around that. In some cases, you can even use a buy for me service or proxy shopping where the freight forwarder handles the purchase on your behalf.
Managing import tax and Malaysia delivery
Once my keyboard arrived at the warehouse, I arranged for my Malaysia delivery. This is where you need to be careful about import tax. In Malaysia, items over a certain value (usually RM500) are subject to SST and potentially other duties.
I made sure to read up on import duties before the package arrived at KLIA. Using a reliable international shipping provider means they usually handle the customs clearance paperwork for you, and you just pay the fees online. It is much easier than trying to clear it yourself at the post office.
The US versus local price gap
You might wonder if it is worth the effort. In my experience, the price gap is significant. Resellers in Malaysia often charge a 30% to 50% premium for "ready stock." By using a international shipping service, I paid the original US retail price plus a reasonable shipping fee. Even after adding the import tax, I still saved about RM400 compared to local "gray market" prices.
My desk setup feels complete now. If you are looking for a high-end tool like the ZSA Voyager in 2026, don't let the borders stop you. My advice? Get your tax-free US address ready and just go for it.
